Concerto for Bass Trombone and Orchestra
Chris' Concerto for Bass Trombone and Orchestra has really gone international! In addition to having been performed by such U.S. orchestras as The Boston Pops (where it was broadcast nationally on PBS "Evening at Pops"), the Pittsburgh Symphony, the Baltimore Symphony, and London's Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Trombone Concerto was performed by The Auckland {New Zealand} Orchestra on December 1 and 2, 2001. And Congratulations to George Wozniak and the Kiski High School Marching Band who came in 7th place in a national competition of Marching Bands performing a marching band arrangement of Chris' Concerto for Bass Trombone and Orchestra ! We weren't there for the competition, but have seen a video of their performance and they were fantastic! Congratulations Kids!!!

"River of Song" - Premiered by Frederica von Stade, Rachel Luxon and the Tassajara Orchestra, Sara Jobin conducting
Last year Chris was commissioned by The Tassajara Symphony Orchestra, Danville, California, Sara Jobin, Music Director, to write a piece for Frederica von Stade to sing with the orchestra. The piece was inspired by several poems written by children from the book, River of Words. Joining Frederica (mezzo soprano) in the performance of this suite of songs was Rachel Luxon, soprano and Taylor Eigsti, pianist. The piece premiered May 5th, 2002, and was a great success.

"Ascension"Chris was commissioned to write a piece for The Norwalk Youth Symphony, Norwalk, Connecticut, which premiered February 10, 2002. Inspired by the tragic events of September 11th, Chris awoke from a dream imagining the immense spiritual power of so many brave innocent souls, in such a concentrated space and time, suddenly transcending their mortality and ascending into Heaven. Thus, Ascension was born. A musical notion to underpin this concept was that in keeping iwth the title, there would be a dominance of musical lines that rose upward. There is hardly ever a time in the piece when there isn't some isntrument playing an ascending passage. Even when one musical line is descending another section of the orchestra is rising. The result gives the work an almost subconscious feeling of optimism.

Convergence: Concerto for Orchestra Chris' new orchestral work, commissioned by The Boston Pops, entitled "Convergence: Concerto for Orchestra" was a big hit when it premiered at Symphony Hall, Boston, Massachusetts on May 16th, 17th & 18th, 2001 premiere. It was also performed by The Boston Pops at Tanglewood on July 31st as part of their "Tanglewood on Parade" program. Richard Dyer reviewed the Tanglewood performance and wrote "The audience [of 18,000+] was on its feet - not just for the fantastic rhythmic stride of the final march, but also for the jazzy urban nocturne of the slow movement and the stirring affirmative proclamations of the beginning. ... Brubeck's tribute to the Pops is graceful; ... it is easily and unpretentiously assimilative, and dedicated both to musical quality and entertainment value."
